Re: Lupines in the midwest

here in zone 6a, I can't grow them either, so don't despair.  The same
exact thing happens:  brown, spindly little plants that slowly fade.  One
co-worker had one that she transplanted in the spring from a garden center.
It bloomed and was never seen from again.  My lupine was in full sun in
amended clay soil.  Hers was in part-shade on the edge of some woods in
some nice fluffy soil.  I grew mine from seed and transplanted in peat
pots.  One actually bloomed before it died, but the whole plant (including
bloom) was less than 12" high.

What's going to disturb me is that someone on this list will then post a
note saying that these -- and foxglove -- grow like weeds in their
garden...
