Do consider traveling to (or from) Baltimore via Pennsylvania so you can see
Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square! It is truly magnificent.
When I was there I kept pinching myself because I thought I must have died
and gone to heaven. You can go to the Longwood website at
http://www.longwoodgardens.org/
for information, and while you are there be sure to take the virtual tour.
Since you are traveling on a budget, plan to go on a Tuesday if you can,
because on Tuesdays the $12 admittance fee is reduced to $8. If you think
that is too much, consider going without lunch that day and figuratively
buying hyacinths to feed your soul instead!
I second the suggestion of visiting the National Arboretum in Washington,
D.C. If I remember correctly, there is no charge to visit. They have a web
site at
http://www.ars-grin.gov/ars/Beltsville/na/
The National Arboretum is really great, but if I had to choose between the
two, I would go to Longwood. Do BOTH, if you can.
