first of all I want to tell you that I am just starting to see buds on
MY coreopsis but then again i am zone 5 and you are obviously (lucky for
you - your season is so much longer!!!!) higher than me.
To answer your question, put some water in a bucket an holding onto the
stems dip the blooms into the water. Swish them around to dislodge
unfavourable guests and that should do the trick. The water won't worry
them (after all they get rained on!!!) but shake them gently afterwards
to get rid of excess water. I swish them around in the air (upside down)
after their water swish.
If this still doesn't work add a few drops (DROPS!!!) of detergent to
the water .
I have found this works well with slugs and earwigs as well as other
yuckies.
