Well, you need xeriscape plants. The Denver Water Board has pushed the idea
of xeriscaping, trademarked the name, and has published some books on the
subject. One that I have is The Xeriscape Plant Guide. You could get
perennials at least started from seeds if you get started soon, and those
plants should survive the winter. They may not bloom this year, however.
You ought to be able to get perennial plants on sale right now, too. There
are a lot of small greenhouse-nurseries in the west Denver/Arvada area, for
instance. An excellent resource is the High Country Gardens catalog. They
sell seeds as well as plants (they've stopped spring shipping, but will
ship in fall from Aug. 28 - Nov. 6. They're at www.highcountrygardens.com
or call 1-800-925-9387. If you're new to the area, look around for a
garden club to join. Margaret L, who's from Boulder
