Solanum crispum 'Glasnevin' and s. jasminoides

I have posted this to the perennial and woody plant list because I'm not
quite sure how these plants fit into these categories.

1.  My s. crispum is about 3 years old and covers a space of about 8 x 10.
Suddeny, about 1/4-1/3 of it looks "fried" for lack of a better
description.  What gives?  Is it prone to any diseases/pests?  We have had a
little hot weather, but the roses growing on either side of it are fine.

2. s. jasminoides: new to me this year.  I have since heard it is more
tender than Glasnevin.  Can anyone tell me to what low temperatures their
plant has survived?  Mine is situated facing north in a fairly protected
bed.  It it dies back to the ground is it possible it would still survive
from the roots?

Any help is appreciated.
