There are all kinds of Rudbeckias, Donna. The much praised 'Goldstrum' is
perennial, but for me it sure wouldn't qualify as having blooms as big as
saucers. More likely you have seen one of the new annual rudbeckia
cultivars, like 'Indian Summer'. They are truly magnificent. You might get
some self-seeding from them, but I don't know for sure--they could be
sterile. I saw a planting last summer that had a large bed fulll of just the
purple verbena bonariensis and one of the rudbeckia big-flowered cultivars,
and it was a fantastic combination.
Rudbeckias make pretty good cut flowers too.
