Hello Group,
I once asked the purple daylily question of the society in my area and the
answer was 'Strutter's Ball'. At the same time, I tried over and over to
find a true pink buying many that were really "peachy". I have a "pink but
really peachy" reject row.
Again, location may be part of the reason the descriptions in catalogs or
those enhanced pix do not come true for you. Most of the daylilies bred in
the US are hybridized in Florida. Pinks in Florida are not pink in New York
for reasons not clear to me. It is the number of warm days or some such
thing. You can travel in the south, buy a clump in bloom, replant in the
north ............ different plant.
An old and reliable daylily, available everywhere, is 'Catherine Woodbury'.
This is a lilac pink and most years blooms well with the advertised color.
There is someone on this list with more daylily expertise, I am sure. Other
things to look for are bud count (high bud count, longer bloom season) and
dormant, not evergreen cultivars in the north.
