In his book on seed germination, Prof. Deno claims that every plant
has some way of delaying germination until the seeds have a chance to
disperse.
The one time I grew Baptisia australis from seed, it didn't do
anything for months and several periods in the refrigerator. And then
the plants didn't bloom for another two years!
Is it possible to get these seeds to germinate before they go
dormant? I figure they must be fully developed by the time they dry up
and go dormant. Is the drying stage necessary for germination to take
place?
Right now the Baptisia pods are still light green, and as fat as a
mature pod. I'm going to try sowing some of these green seeds because it
won't take much time, but is this wasted effort?
