Re: Slugs, snails and mildew

Slugs: I vent my spleen on the dratted critters by grabbing them
with my secateurs and cutting them in half - gory, but satisfying.

Mildew:  Try the baking soda recipe - works a treat on Phlox;
designed for roses, tested by Purdue...

To 1 gallon of water, add:
3 tablespoons of baking soda,
1 teaspoon of horticultural oil (SunSpray Ultra Fine Oil is a pretty
widely available brand)
1 teaspoon of dishsoap (as in liquid, like Joy)
Apply every week to 10 days by spraying ... remove infected leaves.
Also, spray the ground around the plant.

I can buy hort. oil locally, but if you can't find it, here's link to
a source on the web - haven't used them, but...
