I think this goes around here every summer. We get lots of posts and a good
assortment of names. You need an accurately named picture to ID your plant
as there are several variegated forms. Some are trouble and some are not.
The varigated forms all freeze to death here so we have no experience with
them being runners. The best common sense is probably to put a bamboo next
to it to remind you to keep an eye on it and just watch.
I have been using bamboo sticks about four feet long now for a few years.
Two of them crossed as an X with hold one plant from falling on another and
one stuck directly into the middle of plant tells me that I am going to do
something with that plant even if I cannot remember just what it is. Usually
dig up and divide when the time is right.
