I have not followed this closely - that knot weed is as Vivien says is all 
over the Norheast and yours for life.  If you have an old property there is 
good chance someone planted it there.  In a newer development, less likely.

It is the subject of many wonderful thug stories.  The number of feet it can 
travel, running under buildings and out the other side, that sort of thing.

Me personally, I detest horsetail.

Thee was one priceless post on this or Shadegardens where a woman in 
Louisiana planted some of those huge alocasia bulbs we see around here in the 
spring,  For us they freeze so are not a problem but apparently they can live 
over and thrive in Louisiana.  She hired a backhoe to get rid of it as they 
were in front of her house and nothing else worked.

In the BBC magazine this month on weeds, it is recommended that for sorrel 
(they are talking oxalis here) you keep and use a free range pig.

For horsetail, spraying with a weedkiller is recommended but you have to 
bruise (beat up I guess) the plant for the chemical to work.  That is new to 
me.
