Propagation of Cotinus (Smoke Tree)

I posted this to the Woody Plants list, but with no results, so I'll 
try this group:

I have a large purple-leafed Cotinus at the rear of my house that 
must be removed to accommodate a sunroom.  There are lots of shoots 
from which to make cuttings, but does anyone have any information as 
which to use; hardwood or softwood, or any special techniques.
