Re: Oriental Lilies

If it was in flower when you received it, I would imagine the
browning of the petals indicates that the flowers are over. As
Claire said, they only flower once and the flowering period is
generally no longer than a couple of weeks; flowers do not all open
at one time and some fade before others.

If you want to keep it in a pot, you need to feed it with something
like Osmacote or Peters or Miracle Grow and make sure the soil does
not dry out.

If you have a garden, you can plant it out. Give it good drainage
and light. I don't know where you are; if in the north, you can
probably put it in full sun; farther south, light shade or morning
sun. They like good, organic, rich soil that stays moist but drains
well.

In my garden, lilies are vole food after a year or so, so I grow them
in half whisky barrels where they last a good number of years. If
you have voles or deer, best keep it in a large pot; sink the pot in
the ground for winter as they need a cold period and haul it out in
spring; repot and enjoy.
