RE: Two questions: aconitum and nicotiana langsdorfii

Susan, it may be, but I think it is just the species. The tag is long
gone.
I think that all growers (including me) are guilty of selling mislabeled
plants at one time or another. Especially if they are sold before they
bloom. It is easier for me to keep tabs on correct labels than it is for a
large retailer like Portland Nursery that has lots of employees with varying
degrees of horticulture knowledge and several acres of plants. I think you
could call or take it back and get a store credit without a problem.

Hi Marilyn,

Is your a. napellus a particular variety?

What do you think is going on with the growers labeling a flat-faced, star
shaped nicotiana as langsdorfii? This was from Portland Nursery, no less.

Susan,
1. My A. napellus is blooming now and sounds like what you describe.
2. I've grown N. langsdorfii in the past and it is indeed a tubular flower,
lime green in color, but I don't think mine reached 4'. 2' would be more
like it. I see that Graham Rice lists it as 2-4'.

Subject:	Two questions: aconitum and nicotiana langsdorfii

I am plagued by two mysteries this year:

1. My neighbor has an aconitum in her yard, no tag of course. It is
blooming now (in Oregon) and has very dissected foliage that is nearly
leather-like in texture, dark green. The flowers are dark blue, it is about
5'.

I have A.. Sparks, carmichaelii, bicolor, and Stainless Steel and NONE OF
THEM have foliage like this. Any guesses????

2. Nicotiana langsdorfii. For the second year in a row I have bought what
was supposed to be n. langsdorfii and what it really is would seem to be n.
"Nikki Lime." What is the deal with that? The true langsdorfii is a tube
flower, 4' or so and lime green, right?

Thanks for the help.
