The wholesale price for the seed of "Purple majesty" is expensive. There could
be several reasons for it. It might be difficult to hybridize or it the
originator might want growers to market the product as a plant in a larger pot.
The line of reasoning is that it is more profitable for the grower to sell the
product in a larger container, rather than mass produce it in a cell pack or
smaller pot at a cheaper product. Another example are the "Wave" petunias. The
reason given by seed companies that the cost of ' wave petunias is over ten
times the cost of regular petunias is that the seed is harder to produce. That
might be true, but I think seed companies don't want to make the product sound
like an ordinary petunia by making the seed cheaper. The more unique the item
the more expensive. I paid the same price for the new dichondria "Silver Falls"
as well.
