RE: perennials DIGEST V3 #177

Hi Melissa,

 You wrote:

That's the first thing I'd advise: know yourself and what you're capable of.

I think that is good advice. I will try to keep "tuned-in" as I go because I have a tendency to get on auto-pilot and work myself until I collapse. I will just have to be prepared to leave even some things I care about.

Establish, if possible, a place in the shade the first year to heel plants in.

That sounds good.

things we moved and heeled in was an (almost)entire 50 foot lilac
hedge and another of spirea and several forsythia about 4 feet tall.

AMAZING.

If possible you might see if you can do your plant moving either
earlier or later or even both.

I LIKE THAT IDEA and hope it works out!

Also (very important!) *Do* ask the future owners how much they care
about the garden.

I will, although from what I've heard MOST people will say they love the garden and intend to garden -- because they have no earthly idea what that really entails -- and plow it under anyway. Unless I can tell they are truly a saavy gardener, I hope to take and give away nearly anything that can be moved

Finally get out there and take a lot of pictures. Now, while you still
can.

I have taken lots of pictures for 13 years, so I'm set there.

Thanks for all your input!
