Mornin' all,
I was outside earlier this morning turning on sprinklers to help the
rain out a bit and give everything a good watering... came back out
an hour or so later and noticed the whole yard was over-run with
slugs of all persuasions.. question is... were they out there
because they wanted more water? or were they driven out of the
flower beds/garden area because they didn't want so much water?
The slugs were in the grass of the lawn and seemed to be fleeing
the garden area where the sprinklers were.. but it is still raining
too? Any ideas anyone? I'm not up on the habits of slugs.. haha
Anyway, it was great for me cause I just went and got a quart jar,
put some salt in it and got a surgical glove on to pick up the slugs..
well, I filled that quart jar 3 times !!!! I poured out the top of the jar
where they hadn't gotten to the salt to my geese and they looked
at me like I was crazy ... they didn't want the slugs, they wanted
regular goose food.. so I just poured the goose food over the slugs
so I hope they eat them..
If you have a slug problem, go out and check your yard and you
may also see them all over the place.. it's a great way to at least
help slow down the slug population..
Also .... I heard there were two types of slugs, the regular
slug that eats all our plant material and another type that preys on
its own kind.. sort of cannibals.. anyone know about this and if you
do, where can I get them? .. with my luck, they are probably
banned in Oregon or something.. *S*
In my internet search for "slugs" I came upon this "sluggy" article
that is just hilarious.. lots of truth in it but funny..
