So how much sun do you have your's in?  East?  Protected south?

Hi Susan, I believe it does need more sun to keep its color as mine is 
consistently pale green, pink and white stripes. I can see why you planted 
it in shade as the color would be brilliant (as my British neighbor would 
say) there! I would replace it with Carex 'Bowles Golden' if yellow would 
work for you as it is fabulous in bright shade.

I planted my Deschampsia against a dark basalt rock wall and it really 
shows up nice. I think this would also be great against dark green foliage. 
I am designing a mediterannean garden for a client where this will be used 
as the base around a dark green very large pot in the middle of a circle 
courtyard. Anyway the possibilities are endless with this plant, but full 
sun is best and I think up against a dark background with some back 
lighting and it is absolutely gorgeous! I love this little grass!
