I know what you mean about seeding different colors. I had one batch of Dianthus barbatus in a vivid purplish red. I took seeds from all of them and scattered them wherever I wanted them.
This year I have masses of light pink flowers . . . . .<sigh>
I've never had success with stem cuttings or root cuttings. They seem to grow where they want, when they want.
