Re: violets, thugs, others

All things are relative, violets included.

I recently purchased a commercial property which I have rehabbed and opened as a tavern and restaurant. It is in a heavily industrial area of the city which is experiencing a renovation. The areas around the building and parking lot were 98% asphalt. The plants which have managed to colonize the remaining cracks and few open areas of soil are the expected Tree of Heaven, Box Elder, Mulberry, Cottonwood and a Rogue's Gallery of annual and perennial weeds.

In the few places I've been prying up the bitumen, I've brought along some thugs of my own: Celandine poppy, Corydalis lutea, Dame's Rocket, Anemone virginiana, to name just a few. At least these thugs will add a bit of color! I've even planted a Calystegia hederacea 'Flore Plena', but situated it next to a light pole in the parking lot with at least 20 ft of asphalt in all directions, just in case.
