Hello again Joanie,
I had Caryopteris on the west side of my garden in the afternoon sun with a companion plant of goldenrod 'Fireworks'. Pretty darn effective. I let the caryopteris get "woody" in the center and die out, and it looked pretty ragged, so I removed it. Blue and yellow are classic color combinations in the garden. Can't go wrong with just about any shade of color in that combo.
Transplanted a new witch-hazel to the garden yesterday. Want to find space for 3 or 4 more.... but doubt that will happen. Just not enough room that can be found thus far. Thinking of seeing that some will get an evergreen companion if I can work the spacing out. Also transplanted the new 'Lady in Red' hydrangea to the garden. Sure like the looks of that one....

Hi, Gene... I think that combo sounds smashing! I'm not usually a 'yellow' person but with the blues/lilacs it's terrific to my eyes too and I crave a bit of walloping color here and there as well. I've used yellow with Caryopteris and it's super too. And who cannot love the diminutive 'Tete a Tete' daffs with muscari or scilla? A great combo! Joanie Anderson 35 mi. north of Chicago
