re: more shade plants

Amsonia (tall lovely green foliage with sharp leaves, clusters of pale
blue stars), Chelone (also called "turtlehead" in white and pink, late
blooming), many Trollius (globeflower) in orange and yellow will take
shade if it's moist. Bergenia, with its leathery leaf, is pretty shade
tolerant also. There's a hardy begonia with pink flowers that did well
with ferns and rhodendrons under a large oak for me. Actually, many
many flowering plants do okay in partial shade if you are willing to
accept less flowering, look for dwarf types to make up for elongation in
less sun, and use leaf mold that keeps the soil well-drained but moist.
