Why is it almost every list I subscribe to has similar problems? Being on
several lists and running a mailing list myself, I receive lots of unwanted
mail. You know what I do? Hit delete! The topic is quite apparent in the
email's subject line. The whining and back-biting consumes more of my time
than people asking questions that might be slightly off-topic.
Except for a couple of people who were "commenting" on someone's typos, I
have not been annoyed or offended by any thread from this list. What annoys
me is the thought of "dismissing" a subscriber because he/she may not
thoroughly understand the purpose of this list, or perhaps if they are not
as skilled in "netiquette" as some people who are not new to the 'Net. As
administrator of a list it is your responsibility to educate your
subscribers about your list.
IMO, this list is well-run and very informative, especially for a new
gardener like myself. When I find it is not serving its purpose, I'll
unsubscribe. Simple as that.
Do you include a faq on your web site, and do you refer new subscribers to it?
