Re: Aconitum, "Monkshood" poisonous???


Hi Leslie and B. Luby:

Monkshood has been grown safely for centuries -- it is poisonous if
you *ingest* it. If your puppy/child/cat is in the habit of chewing
on your perennials, you should avoid planting both Monkshood and
Foxgloves (digitalis, and also poisonous when ingested). Just working
with or around the plants shouldn't create any problems for you;
wearing gloves and washing your hands well after working in the
garden is always a good idea. Hope this helps.
