I suspect the best and most authoritative answer, for US West Coast
members, is the one just provided by Loren Russell, of Corvallis, which
appeared on Perennials yesterday, and is reproduced below.
However, George Schenk's book IS out of print, and there are some of you
who don't live on the west coast, so I can't resist recommending (without
having seen it, let alone having read it), based on the reputation of the
author and the book's provenance, what is probably the newest book on
rock gardening:
Bartolomei, Robert (Bob). Rock Gardens. New York, New York Botanical
Garden, 1997. 192 pages (The Serious Gardener Series). Sorry I don't
have the price, but you can email the author for it: <RBartolemei@nybg.org>
It would be available at a 20 per cent members' discount from the North
American Rock Garden Society Book Store <nargsBS@efn.org>
Other than being a member of the NARGS, I have no connection, commercial
or otherwise, with the book's author, publisher or distributors.
The STANDARD book on rock gardening is generally considered to be Lincoln
Foster's thirty-year old classic, *Rock Gardens*, still in print and
available from the NARGS Bookstore at a members' price of $18.
