Re: Perfect Pairings

I really like Tagetes lemonii (Mexican Bush Marigold) and Salvia
leucantha (Mexican Bush Sage) together - purple and yellow. Besides
the color, I find that the marvelous perfume of the Marigold drowns
out the smell of the Sage, which is one I really don't like.

Another dazzling combination is Fremontodendron (Flannel Bush) and
Ceanothus (Wild or California Lilac), any species. Yellow and blue
combo. These latter two are California natives. Throw in some Ribes
(currant or gooseberry - any species; pink) and Aesculus californica
(sp?; big white sprays and great seed pods), two more natives and
you're really rockin'. I find that a grouping of California natives
has just the greatest smell, even though I can't stand Ribes on its
     own.

Hi there! I'm looking for 'knock out' garden pairs in the
garden - along the lines of 'ferns and hostas', 'poppies
and lupins', 'bamboos and maples' and so on... What are
your favourites?

I'm also especially keen on specifically American ones -
say, ones first set up by American designers, or which are
traditional to your region! By all means add a third plant
if you like. It would be nice to have species/variety
names of esp. good combinations.

If you want to find out something about Scottish gardens
and gardening, have a look at my website.

Regards

David
