re: salpiglossus

Salpiglossus, a strikingly beautiful annual sometimes called "Painted
Tongues," comes in a nice range of colors. Thompson and Morgan usually
carries the seeds (maybe Parks and Burpee do also). I have not had any
particular problems in the past with germinating the seeds indoors under
lights, but the real problem for me in zone 5, where summer can turn
very hot and humid, is that the plants can't take the weather in
Illinois. They are probably great in England and the Pacific Northwest,
somewhat like some other cool-loving annuals such as the satiny Godetia,
charming Nemesia, and brilliant Calendula.
