nasty little chipmunks

Here in central Ontario, I am having a heck of time with a "plague" of
those cute little chipmunks digging up newly planted seedlings and over the
past few days, wiped out a good number of crocus bulbs that have sat in the
ground for years.

I know that squirrels will devour tulip bulbs by the thousands, I have
never had trouble with chipmunks.

What do you do to get rid of chipmunks, short of shooting them, or
poisoning them. No cats, either....they don't last very long with the
local wildlife (hawks, fishers, martens, etc.) and are usually considered
as "biennials" at best (gardening humour)! Or, does anyone have experience
with spreading bloodmeal around flower beds to discourage them as one would
with squirrels?

Cheers!
