Re: Design/Achilleas

My Achilleas are just beginning to bloom. I bought A. ptarmica 'The
Pearl' about 4 years ago - I wish I has known what a spreader it was and
had planted it in a confined space. I also have several colors of
'Summer Shades' Achillea which do not seem to be invasive, and some
large clumps of A. 'Coronation Gold' which need to be divided again
after just two years in one spot. But I like them for their toughness
and hardiness - they can take the upper midwest swing from bitter long
winters to very hot summers (It's 90+ degrees today).

Which may answer my next question: I bought a couple of alpine poppies
(so labelled) at a farmers' market - low growing (4-5"), colorful
miniature poppy blooms, but now are definitely stressed out and
browning. Is it the hot weather? Are they done for? Might they be back
next spring?
