You're gonna love this one...
Crank up the weedeater.  Get the hang of using it first, tho, lest you
nip your coreopsis in it's veritalbe bud.
Weedeaters are great for massive deadheading.  Hold it above the
foliage, usually where the flowers are (or were) anyway.  And if you
accidentally whack more than just the expired flowerheads, just view it
as 'massive pinching'.
This technique works very well on heathers, too.
