In answer to your query about your journal, write down anything pertaining
to your flowers that you might want to know down the road. I list such
things as when I planted a certain flower, bulb, corm, when it bloomed, if
the bloom and foliage were up to expectations, when I separated the plant,
and, if an annual, would I plant them again next year (or whenever). And
scads of other data, e.g., if it's tall and spindly whether I had to stake
it; if I'm looking for an amaryllis with a short, strong stem, did the one
I potted this year have that characteristic, etc. Above all, make it a
labor of love. When one of your babies does you proud, rhapsodize. Don't
let it become an onerous task; don't feel you need to keep copious notes on
every plant. Just play it by ear.
