I wish I had your luck with Mums. I bought mine from a reputable nursery.
They were supposed to be hardy in Zone 5. They were very beautiful last
fall, but nothing has emerged this spring at all. I am very disppointed. I
did everything the grower told me to do. I know others in this area who
have had the same experience, but someone who lives 10 miles west of me has
mums that come back every year and she gives them no care at all..... go
figure.

I've heard they are very susceptible to freezing & thawing conditions because
they are shallow-rooted. I had some for many years next to the house on a
hillside. At the top of the hill was a leaky faucet. I fixed the faucet &
all my mums died out in a couple years. I'm not sure about the connection but
I've heard we are supposed to water everything well before the ground freezes.
Thought the watering would help protect things from being damaged by freezing
& thawing. What do you all think??
BTW - I've wanted to replace these mums but have no idea what they might be.
They would start blooming early in Aug. They were golden yellow at first;
then would slowly turn bronze in Sept. & Oct. The flowers lasted a long time
so would have yellow flowers & shades of rust at the same time. Do any of you
have any ideas which one this might be????
