I just planted red varerian last year. It's really
beautiful mixed with nepta (catmint). My
question is:
One of my nongardening neighbors has
something that matches it flower and leaf, but
it is a light lavender pink, not the pinky red of
the common variety. Is there such a thing or
does she have something special (she won't
know, she just plants what's given to her).

Don't rip out the red valerian yet. I first put
them in last year and they
bloom their heads off all season. They have
become my favorite plant. This
year they spread and have been blooming for a
week already and will go to
frost if you keep them deadheaded. Give them a
chance and I think you will be
pleased.
