Yes.  But wait until they're dry and rattling. 
Poppies' seed heads are distinct; they're even
used in dried arrangements.  They become
round or oblong, depending on the poppy, but
they all seem to have a flat head.  Between the
flat head and the round pod there are little
holes where the seeds shake out naturally if left
alone.  You do have to keep an eye on them
when it gets close to rattling (and this can take
a few months if you're not in a very hot
climate), or the next thing you know you'll
have EMPTY dry, poppy pods.

I cut the full pods, take them indoors and shake
them individually by color onto paper towels.  I
store them in baby food jars or old plastic film
cannisters with a label.  Next spring, early, I
throw them out and start all over again!
