re: Phystostegia

Can we share embarrassments? I still haven't been able to get obediant
plant to grow, and finally gave up. I was trying it on a hill, and
maybe that was the problem. But I knew it was supposed to be invasive
-- I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't take off for me.

No, just a ten-year-old and an elderly newfy who is a pushy bitch, and a
longstanding embarrassment at buying the same easy-to-grow plant at a
plant
sale four years running before I got it established. (Phystostegia --
false dragonhead or obedient plant -- if that gives you any feel for the
problem. Once established, it quickly and completely took over a 10'
square area, but I managed to pull it, or something, since I didn't
remember I had it. Yes, labeling it might have solved the problem. but
the book tells me when things bloomed, and gives me a chance to record
where things are in the garden and how they behave -- and to remember my
"aha!'s" till when I can use them.)

BTW, I am indebted to those who suggested using miniblind slats for
plant
markers. My GC's plant sale used 500+, for which I paid a total of $4,
and
I'm on my second set of blinds now for myself. The phystostegia and
some
oenothera were left over, but we sold most of the other 700 or so plants
we
had.
