Hi All!
Haven't posted since I joined this list several weeks ago, but have been
glued to the computer reading messages.
Here in Michigan, as you may have heard, we were hit with hurricane force
winds that knocked down trees by the thousands plus many barns and other
structures. My new perennial garden withstood most of it except for some
severely leaning to the east miniature irises.
At the worst possible time, my plant order arrived from New Holland bulb;
sorry to say they were in a sorry state. Worst ones were mixed lupines that
were already black and very sickly, also dead were bold painted daisies.
Some of the others were in poor to fair condition so have been planting them
as quickly as I can to try and ensure their survival. I called New Holland
and they were very good about offering a refund or replacement of the
plants. I prefer to replace them; and they are going to send them in the
fall. My question; are these two types safe to plant in the fall and expect
them to make it through the winter? The CSR seemed to think so; but would
like some other opinions.
Also told CSR that a good number of the other plants were questionable;
anyone have any problems getting refunds or replacements for larger amounts
of non-viable plants from them?
Also, could someone point me in the direction for info on heathers and
heaths; I know its off topic for this list so putting me in the right place
would be appreciated. Thanks for listening and will probably be looking to
you for more info as the season progresses.
