RE: new garden

Last year was my first year at gardening. I bought some tiny perennials
and was absolutely crushed when they grew only a tiny amount and did not
bloom. Just one year later, it's like someone injected them with steroids.
My purple coneflower that did not get over five inches last year is now an
unbelievable three feet tall!!!! The oriental lilies I planted grew about
two feet tall and only a few bloomed last year. Now they're up to four
feet and it looks like they will be loaded with blooms. And I don't even
want to tell you what my monarda is doing. I highly suspect it will take
over the house by the end of the summer.

So if you can be patient (something I am not good at), your efforts will be
greatly rewarded next year. I wouldn't have thought it possible last year.
I definitely second the suggestion for annuals this year. I know
perennials have the long-lasting power, but annuals are the greatest for an
inpatient person like myself. I recommend unusual types like cleome, globe
amaranth, strawflowers, statice, and of course, it's hard to go wrong with
impatiens.

Good luck and let us know how your garden turns out. I can't wait to hear
from you next year when your perennials will be amazing you.
