Pottsey,

What size plants did you purchase? I bought gallon-sized perennials this
year from a very reputable nursery this year and was surprised at how fast
they grew. Just about all have either bloomed, are blooming now, or are
forming buds. I had read before that to make an immediate impact in one's
garden, you should buy gallons, but they were always so pricey. I usually
buy small containers (4" and 3-1/2") and look for the second year. Cheaper
this way.

The gallon option is one that you might want to consider in the future. I
paid anywhere from $6.99 for the more common perennials up to $8.99 for the
better cultivars. But if you're impatient, or have gaps that you want to
fill this year, it's the way to go. Just remember, these perennials still
won't look as good as established plants, but at least you'll get some
color and bulk the first year.
