Different programs describe the options in different ways.

I use Microsoft Outlook, have MIME enabled and HTML disabled. That disables
the RTF and allows me to send plain text, or ASCII code. I do have to be
careful when replying to some messages, because replying to an HTML coded
note automatically turns my HTML option back on.

The point is: If you can add colored text, different typefaces,
backgrounds, or neat formatting to your email messages, please turn that
feature off for email lists.

I don't open attachments but I do have web access. When the honeysuckle
questions came through, I went to http://www.mallorn.com/lists/perennials/
and read the message there. Some lists keep archives and the 'invisible'
message hidden in attachments can usually be read on those archives-without
the HTML formatting.
