Attachments aren't inherently bad -- your mail reader should be 
configurable to not run programs automatically.  To be safe, it
should NEVER run an outside application automatically, because
that's when problems being.

To whoever started putting the ot - in the subject line, thank you!
I like the way that iris-l does this, so maybe we should too.
