Val, Since hardy geraniums grow well in the hot, humid summers of St. Louis,
I am pretty sure they will thrive in Kentucky, too. We are also zone 6. I do
grow mine in part shade rather than full sun.

In fact, several species are native to Missouri -- Geranium maculatum (Wild
Geranium) and Geranium carolinianum (Carolina Crane's Bill). Kentucky and
Missouri are both in the Eastern Deciduous Forest biome. I believe these two
species are found throughout the biome, although I don't have time to look it
up just now.

I grow G. maculatum (one of my favorite wildflowers!), and G. endressii and G.
sanguineum, and they thrive. They all require part shade where summers are
hot. So, if you plant them where they will have afternoon shade, I think
they should do nicely in Kentucky, too. --Janis
