I really appreciated everyone's input into the perennial vine question.
The suggestion to leave the clematis in place to co-exist with an
evergreen vine is great! I believe I'll do that, then I'll won't be so
sad about cutting back the clematis.
I looked up the Akebia quinata, trying to get an idea of its appearance.
One of the references said it's invasive, and another said it's well
behaved...I think perhaps I'll look for some.
I'm not so sure about the trachelospermum. I actually have some of that
in my yard (dont' know if it's "madison", I was told it's hardy here)
but winter before last, it died back to the ground. It's just now
starting to look like something again. I don't know if it was the
temperature, lack of moisture, or just the stress of its first winter.
Haven't found anything about the holboellia yet. And my husbanf refuses
to let me plant anything that has "honeysuckle" associated with it!
Thanks for all your great help!
