I have this problem with my big clump of Geranium 'Johnson' s Blue' and
this is what I did: I got my heavy duty wire cutters and cut a 2-foot
square of green plastic covered fencing which has 3 inch spaces, wired
four 2 1/2 foot "legs" at the corners (heavy fence wire) and pushed this
into the ground around the clump in the early spring before the plant
started growing, then (because this particular geranium gets 3+ feet
tall), I pushed in a tomato cage over this, as well. The foliage
completely hides the hardware and most of the heavy blooms are
supported. After the bloom is over, it is not too difficult to reach
around inside to cut it back. I have taken divisions of this lovely
beast and the divisions don't get as tall as the mother plant (yet).
Much the same kind of large mesh on legs device is available
commercially, but at a goodly price!
