Re: Gauras

I like Gauras, too. The big one is 'Dauphine', and at my house is a fast
grower. From a 2 qt pot in April it is alread 3' tall and at least 1 1/2'
in diameter. I am still waiting for flowers. The others are all smaller.
For me, the species has topped out at 3', counting the flower stalks.
'Siskiyou Pink', which is a lovely hot pink, is proving to be smaller.
'Corey's Gold', with gold varigated foliage, also looks to be smaller. All
of my plants are in heavy clay, but are planted on a slope to increase
drainage. I suspect that good drainage may be more important than 8 hours
of sun.
Give it a try. I was told that Gaura would not survive a winter in heavy
clay soil, but "whirling Butterflies', 'Corey's Gold' and the straight
species all survived, so I have added the others. 6 hours of sun may be
enough.
