Hi folks,
I'm new to this list & noticed some recent discussion of the origin
of this plant. It was found by Dr John Richards of Newcastle University.
John is an authority on the genus Taraxacum (Dandelions) and
occasionally runs 'Dandelion weekends' to teach people the art of
distinguishing the various species (over 200 here in the UK and all
superficially similar), it was on one such weekend near the town of Reading
that he spotted this plant on a roadside verge - it was apparently visible
amongst its normal green brethren from half a mile away! John had a trowel
with him and dug up an offset tuber ( the original plant could still be out
there..) the rest is history. My own plant is a self-sown seedling from Johns
own garden - a kind gift on a recent visit.
Darren.
