When I remember, I whack my boltonia back right about now, to about half
its height. It flowers beautifully in late summer, and at a much more
manageable and graceful height. Otherwise it looks like a fence. It
has spread a lot since we put it in. I probably should divide it and
put it in other places in my garden this summer. . . .

Hi Carol. I wrote a note last night saying: "Boltonia?!!! In
a container? Wow." Then I thought that was inappropriate
~ for all I knew your containers were huge.
I've been growing both (pink & white) for several years here. I
love the way they look ~ millions of small daisy-like flowers
sort of floating there on a rather delicate tracery of foliage.
*but* they are floppy as hell & I'm getting really annoyed with
all the floppiness. I'm moving them to see if I can find
something stronger to lean them against. The pink are floppier
than the snowbank. However ~ prepare yourself for a big plant.
Not only do they get to 5' without breaking a sweat they get
w - i - d - e.
I suggest putting something else in the pot and move the
boltonia into an empty spot in the back of the border.
