You could try an 'experiment' of sorts. Move this plant to another area (if
possible) and see how it does *next* year. Also, if your budget allows, buy
another and plant it with flower buds or in flower and plant it and see how it
gets through the rest of the season. I am having a difficult time figuring
out what possible could be wrong.
These are one of my favorite plants and one that I rarely have to tend to. My
three clumps are blooming right now (one clump planted from seed from mother
plant)-this is the purple variety. I also just planted two white ones, who
now have flower heads, ready to go.
I have had some plants that didn't do well one year, and gave another chance
for next growing season. If by that next growing season, they still look
crummy, well, something is either wrong with the way or where I planted or the
plant is just a dud, in which case-out it goes.
