You could enclose the cuttings in a sand bed in a large plastic sweater box,
never fully closing the box, to allow air in.

You build a box with a wire mesh bottom, lay a heating cable, and cover with
your sand or other media. This box then goes inside a "tented" area ( fully
enclosed by walls, and/or plastic sheeting which can be lifted for access, and
in the heat of the summer, to allow more air circulation. Then you install a
solenoid and mister (really not at all complicated)-- I got mine through a
company in Long Island, whose name I cannot recall at the moment, but I know
that they regularly advertize.

Yes, the cuttings do not need water at their feet, must a bit of moisture-- the
trick is for the leaves not to dry out.--
