I have occasionally seen "The American Gardener" at Borders. I bought my
first issue there and liked it so much I joined the AHS. If you travel at
all, you also get free or reduced admission at many horticultural sites. I
recently got free admission to the house tour at Stan Hywet in Akron from my
membership.
Check any large bookstore with an extensive section of gardening magazines.
