Anyone that is taking 50' feet worth of lilac blooms has other intentions
than personal "innocent" use. I hope the homeowner was able to press
charges of some sort.
Reminds me of a story Ann Lovejoy has in one of her books about two old
ladies systematically denuding her old lilacs and when caught, responding,
"But honey, you have so many flowers and we live in an apartment and don't
have any!"
I have seen neighbor kids (old enough to know better) having full arms of a
bouquet after canvassing the neighborhood, "for their mom." At the point
your child brings you these stolen flowers I can't believe parents don't see
this as a time to teach them about not taking things that don't belong to
us!

For mine is a little old fashioned garden where the flowers come
together to praise the Lord and teach all who look upon them to do
likewise.
